Course Detail: ICELAND - Tour Iceland

Summary

Join us to explore Iceland, a Nordic Island nation with a population of less than 338,000, most living in the capital of Reykjavik. The dramatic landscape includes volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, and lava fields which you can explore. Long summer days with nearly 24 hours of sunlight are offset by short winter days with only a few hours of sun.

Highlights
  • 10 day/8 night private journey through Iceland (including travel days) exclusively for OLLI at UAH members.
  • Although elusive and unpredictable, the natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights may decide to make an appearance since you are visiting in September. *Northern Lights wake-up calls are possible throughout your travels.
  • Explore some of the most majestic scenery in the world, including Gullfoss Waterfall, UNESCO World Heritage rated Thingvellir National Park, and Reynisfjara black sand beach with its amazing basalt cliff formations.
  • Stop for a visit to the Háafell goat farm in Hvítársíđa, where goats have been bred since 1989. This delightful little farm is credited with saving the Icelandic goat from extinction.
  • Relax in the geothermal baths of Iceland, including the Blue Lagoon.
  • Peek inside the Akranesviti Lighthouse to take in the incredible harbor view.
  • Learn about Iceland's volcanic history and how it has shaped the country during a visit to the Lava Center in Hvolsvollur. Enjoy their interactive exhibits and introduction to volcanology in Iceland.
  • Your adventures will include a 3-hour easy glacier walk at Sólheimajökull with an expert guide.
  • Stop for a visit to the Cave People to explore how the people lived in the wild nature of Iceland less than 100 years ago. Just an hour from Reykjavik, this is a great chance to see an example of what those cave homes looked like as you hear from your guide.
